Bare knuckle fighter opens up about sex addiction and porn star career switch

A professional bare knuckle fighter has opened up about his ‘sex addiciton’, which resulted in him making a brief career switch to become a male porn star.

Tyler Goodjohn started out as a boxer, but quit the traditional sport to embrace the fast-growing movement around bare knuckle fighting.

Brutal bouts see fighters face off without gloves, often sustaining shocking facial injuries and swollen fists as they go head-to-head in a squared ring.

And, although he has had a successful time as a bare knuckle fighter, Tyler has opened up about some of his struggles away from the ring, revealing that he has struggled with an addiction to sex.

“Sex was my thing. Every day, twice a day. It sounds great, but it’s really not, it’s unfulfilling, it’s quite shameful, embarrassing at times,” he confessed, speaking to James English on his Anything Goes podcast.

“And when you become reliant on that, and you’re feeling like you’re on your arse every day, and the only way to bring yourself up was to then have sex with someone it’s horrible.

Explaining that it had felt like an “addiction”, Tyler even described how sex had led to him making the unusual career switch to working as a porn star.

“I got into doing porn, and that for me was like I could go and have sex with women and nothing’s coming off the back of it," he remembered.

“It was just like I had to do it to get back up there, when I was down here.”

Although he was establishing a successful career in the fighting world at the time, Tyler had been introduced to porn by an ex-girlfriend who worked in the adult industry.

But, he stressed that the decision to start filming himself having sex wasn’t done to satisfy his partner’s urges.

“I think it was to please myself, to be honest. I would be just constantly chasing that high,” he explained.

In fact, Tyler suggested that addiction issues – whether alcohol, drugs or sex – had been an issue for many of his peers in the fighting world as they approached the end of their careers.

“I don’t know if it’s because we're used to always fighting, and having that high of fighting, and now we can see that we’re probably coming towards the end of it,” he added.

And now, having stopped shooting porn, Tyler was able to reflect on the impact that the career switch had left on his fighting, including the inevitable online trolling that comes from being associated to adult work.

He recalled: “As a fighter, all my trolls were sending me videos of her porn and all that.. But six or seven months down the line, I don’t know what it was but it clicked and I was alright with it.

“But it definitely desensitises your mind to sex, because I’d been round so many studios and seen how fake porn is. Even now I can’t really watch it because it’s so fake.”

Although Tyler has moved on from his time working in porn, he admitted that he is still battling his sex addiciton issues.

But, looking ahead, he told James that he has aspirations to become world champion of his weight class “in the next year”.
